Travel Post: Three Days in Prague

Last year on this day, we were getting on a plane to fly overseas! How truly crazy that time can go so fast. I thought today would be a good day to share photos from our time in Prague. <3

When we were planning our trip, I told my husband that we were going to Finland, and he could choose where else we would go. Germany was at the top of his list, and Italy was next, but with the time we had available, we felt like Italy and Germany were too far apart to fully enjoy both. We pulled up a map of Europe and looked at places near Germany instead. A good friend of mine who’s done a lot of traveling in Europe once told me that Prague was one of her top favorites, so years ago I had mentally added it to my list of “places I’d like to go if I get the chance.” Looking at the map, we realized Prague was only a 2.5 hour train ride from our first German destination! It made perfect sense to go there too.

I looked up a lot of places to stay in Prague, and I kept coming back to this charming AirBNB that was right in Old Town Square with a view of the clock tower. This was the best decision! The location was PRIME and it was so worth the money. It even had a hammock inside directed right towards the clock tower.

We arrived in Prague around 1 pm and took taxi from the airport into Old Town. Once we got settled into our place, we meandered around the square a little bit and got familiar with our surroundings! The old architecture had is in awe. We ended up going over one of the walking bridges and getting some Italian food. On our way back, we realized that crowds were forming along one side of the bridge and on the riverside, and we never figured out exactly what was going on, but a plan flew overhead and some people jumped out and parachuted down to land on a raft in the river. We’re pretty sure there was a performance of some kind happening down there.

Our disaster of a child. :)

It was when we got to Prague and started touring that we started to think maybe we should’ve brought a baby-sitter along! Audyn did well for the most part, but she really didn’t care to see the castles or museums and would get really antsy in her stroller after a couple of hours. We went back to the AirBNB for a lot of breaks and naps with her!

There was a really pretty cafe with gardens near our building, and I had to snap a few photos of Audyn over there! We walked over and up to the castle our second morning there. We stopped at the Ippa Cafe on the way and Jess became obsessed with the fruit shaped cakes! Once at the castle we climbed the stairs alllll the way to the top. The views were so stunning!

Sweetie adapted to being in the stroller a lot and was able to take snoozes while we were out and about.

After the castle, we went to the Old Jewish Cemetery. The cemetery was built up over the years since there was no room to go out, so the people buried there are in layers. I looked up some more history on this after we were there and the last person buried there was in 1786. The headstones lean on each other, on the trees, and the trees were even growing around some of them. While walking through the cemetery, our stroller was too wide to fit in one area, and this group of ladies offered to help us, so one of them took Audyn while Jess and I collapsed the stroller and lifted it up and over the tight spot. The ladies were from Israel and they oohed and aahed over her and then said oh we can keep her! When we held our arms out to take her back, Audyn didn’t want to come! I snapped a quick photo of the woman holding her, but I so wish I had taken a minute to take a picture of all of them with her!

Near the cemetery were several synagogues. We stopped in this one for a few minutes. There were photos all around the room of the hostages that had been taken in the attack by the Hamas on Israel the fall before. There were links on the back of the photos that led to the personal story of each hostage. I got such eerie shivers reading those stories. We of course had heard about the attacks, but learning the personal stories of the hostages made everything seem so much closer.

After an afternoon break, we walked down to the river and went on a sightseeing ride. Not the most relaxing activity with a 20-month-old! The views were so beautiful.

Our third day was a rainy one! We went out in the morning to find a doctor to get antibiotics for Jess’s ear infection, and then we stopped at Cafe Cafe for a delicious breakfast! Then we headed up to the clock tower and got to view the Old Town Square from above.

A nice couple from Canada took our picture in front of the clock tower.

Jess and I took turns wandering about the gift shops when we had a chance! There was a church in Old Town Square that had a concert of some kind every night, so we stopped in and heard some classical renditions of Ave Maria. Audyn showed her belly to a stranger afterwards who came to say hi. :)

The square at night. <3 Since there were no cars allowed, we utilized this space a lot to let Audyn run around.

These trdelnik shops were everywhere! Jess got one to try and I took a bite.

Our last night in the city, Jess and I thought mayyyyybe we could get Audyn to sleep early and go to the diner at the bottom of our building for dinner, but she knew we were up to something and refused to go to sleep! So that didn’t work out, but maybe I wouldn’t have been able to do it anyways.

I’m sure there’s a lot more we could’ve seen in Prague, but with Audyn, there were some things we chose not to do, such as an underground tour. I’d go back if I had the chance but I also know there’s many other European cities I’d love to visit, and I do feel we got to see a lot in the few days we were there!
